KATA SANDANG
Ada 2 macam kata sandang, yaitu :

Indefinate Article

INDEFINATE ARTICLE
Definate Article adalah kata sandan tidak tentu yaitu : “ a” dan “an“
digunakan di depan kata benda tunggal yang belum kita ketahui secara pasti atau
tertentu, misalnya :
“I want to watch a film
tonight.

Dalam kalimat diatas kata sandang “ a “ dan bukan “ the “ sebab kita
belum mengetahui film yang hendak kita tonton. Perbedaan antara “ a “ dan “ an
“, yaitu :
“ A “ digunakan di depan kata
benda tunggal yang diulai dengan bunti mati sedangkan “ AN “ digunakan di depan
kata benda tunggal yang dimulai dengan bunyi hidup.
Contohnya ;
A car
A university
A buffalo
An answer
An hour
An umbrella
2.
DEFINITE ARTICLE :
Kata sandang tertentu yakni “ the “ , dan digunakan di depan kata benda
tunggal atau jamak, yakni :
1)
Sudah pernah kita sebut sebelumnya
Contoh :
A man is walking slowly. A dog is following him. The man is carrying some
meat . the dog is looking at the meat.
2)
Sudah kita ketahui secara pasti/ tertentu:
Contoh :
The man who repaired your car is my father. That is the boy who came to
your house yesterday.
3)
Bersifat khusus
Contoh :
The water in this glass is dirty.
( not all water is dirty, but only the one in this glass is )
The air in that house is not fresh.
Etc
Kata sandang : “THE “ tidak dipergunakan , bila :
a.
Untuk menyebut nama orang, nama kota, tempat,
gunung, sungai, negara, dsb; kecuali jika namaa – nama tersebut digunakan
sebagai kata sifat, maka kata sandang “THE “ masih tetap dipakai
Contoh :

the Jakarta Fair.

Kata sandang “ THE “ juga tidak dipergunakan di
depan kata benda yang bersifat umum atau yang memiliki sifat universal.
Contoh :

Mari kita bandingkan !

The air in this classroom is not fresh.

The water in this river is muddy
